Southampton, NY – Athena Art Finance Corporation’s General Counsel, Rebecca Fine, participated in a panel at Jeff Lincoln Art + Design, where she spoke as a member of an expert panel on the topic of Beyond Art Collecting: Making Your Art Work for You.

Attended by over 50 collectors, gallerists and their fiduciaries, advisors and art market professionals, the panel discussion provided insight on how best to optimize the value of your collection.

The program was moderated by Tash Perrin, Senior Vice President and Senior Director, Trusts, Estates, & Wealth Management Services at Christie’s and also featured panelists William G. Pearlstein of Pearlstein, McCullough & Lederman LLP and Lauren Rocklin, Senior Vice President, US Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management.

Fine’s discussion focused on how and why to use art as loan collateral to grow your collection, for investment capital, general liquidity and estate planning; Pearlstein provided tips for transacting in the art market, with an emphasis on private sales in the secondary market; and Rocklin shared insights on how fiduciaries and trustees enhance value by actively managing their clients’ art assets.

Commenting on Athena’s leadership in lending to art market participants, Fine noted to potential borrowers or those advising their clients on borrowing that Athena’s robust approach to due diligence mirrors the best practices of the most sophisticated collectors and that it is important to consider the lender’s business model. She also noted the increasing demand of those looking to access the value of their art or collections in lieu of or prior selling it.
