New York – Athena Art Finance Corporation’s CEO, Andrea Danese, participated in an art law series webinar hosted by Locke Lord LLC.
The expert panel examined the rationale for art collecting and investing, art as its own asset class, due diligence practices, and risk management considerations.
The discussion was moderated by Victoria de Lisle, Partner, Locke Lord LLP, and also featured panelists John Arena, Senior Structured Credit Executive for Fine Art Product, US Trust; Mary Buschman, President, ARIS Title Insurance Corporation; and Hartley Waltman, Senior Counsel-Art Business, Christie’s.
Danese discussed Athena’s approach to valuation and reliance on depth of market to inform liquidity. He also shared Athena’s process and strict guidelines around pricing an asset and providing a loan, with considerations that include art market intelligence, documentation, artwork condition, transaction structure and borrower assessment.
